I am Afro Chic, the creative talent and brains behind Boots by Afro Chic, a micro-enterprise, dedicated to providing masqueraders with custom decorated footwear to complement and complete their Carnival look.
In 2007, after decorating my own boots for Carnival, I decided to share my enthusiasm for design and decorating with the rest of the world, and thus, Boots by Afro Chic was born. Over the past few years, my clientele has grown and now I cater to masqueraders both regionally and internationally. In 2010, I decided to expand, and now offer decoration of wire bras and corsets, and collar creation.
It's amazing how what started off as just a bit of fun, became so time consuming. But to be honest, the feeling of satisfaction I get when I finish a pair of boots and see them on the road, makes it all worthwhile.
I was recently selected to be part of the Innovations in Mas Project by the Trinidad and Tobago Coalition of Service Industries (TTCSI), and my work has been featured on T&T's premiere Carnival blog, Trinidad Carnival Diary, as well as Outlish Magazine.
